We hope you like our website and that you can find what you need to know.
We'll keep you up-to-date with what's going on at Applied Language Services.
June 2011
We’ve now passed the 20 year landmark since Applied Language Services was founded in 1990. During that time we’ve managed to ride several periods of difficult financial times, none more so than during the past 12 months. In order to sustain the business we’ve looked for new markets and have increased the language combinations we can offer. We’re pleased to have increased business with solicitors in the area, offering translations of legal documents in a whole range of languages and also providing interpreters to help in cases involving clients who are not able to communicate fully in English. We’re very happy that some of our best long-term clients continue to use our services, so many thanks to them for their custom and we hope this will continue for many more years.
Our charity

This year we’re supporting Cancer Research UK. SHINE is a night-time walking marathon to raise funds for the work of Cancer Research UK. We’re supporting Eva who is doing the walk in London. If you feel able to support this worthy cause please go the link below where you can donate on-line.

“Getting work from Translation & Interpreting Agencies – A few helpful tips”
On Saturday 7th February Dot Bell will be giving an informal talk to translators and interpreters new to the profession. The talk will hopefully give the audience some hints on what a Translation and Interpreting Agency is looking for when recruiting freelance linguists. There’ll be lots of opportunity to ask questions. If you have questions that you’d like to e-mail to me in advance that would be really helpful.
The meeting is part of the programme offered by Lincolnshire Society of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. Its starts at 2.30pm at Lincoln University. So if you’re in the area do come along!
Spring 2007 - What’s in a name?
I’d like to mention a situation that has arisen with our company name. There is another company, set up about 3 years ago, who unfortunately chose a name very similar to ours. We have recently been made aware of this and in order to avoid confusion would like to clarify:
Applied Language Services was established in 1990 and has a proven track record of quality translations offered over the past 17 years.
We are situated in the East Midlands
Our Director has not appeared on BBC’s Dragon’s Den
All translations are carried out by native speakers of the target language
Spring 2007 - Getting Married Abroad?
More and more people are choosing to have their special day abroad. What needs translating? Do translations need to be notarised? Advice and support to members of the public has become an important aspect of our work. We are happy to advise you on what to do and where to go for the help you need to meet the requirements regarding document translation if you're getting married in places such as the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Greece or the Greek Islands. If you need your marriage certificate translating back into English on your return in order to update your driving licence or passport, then we can help with that too.
Spring 2007 - Swim for Malaria update

In autumn of 2006 I had an e-mail from the WSM organisers thanking us for our contribution. The campaign was a huge success. We translated over 30,000 words in each language free of charge. Over $1.3m had been raised at that time and nets were being put in place by The Red Cross...that's over 270,000 bednets which the stats tell us will save the lives of at least 13,500 children. With the help of all our volunteer translators, Applied Language Services have made a big contribution to this result. The campaign is ongoing. See www.worldswimformalaria.com for full details.

November 2005 - Celebrating 15 years of quality service

This year we are proud to announce that it is 15 years since we established Applied Language Services. During that time the company has seen a steady expansion. Our company ethic however, has stayed the same. We pride ourselves in offering a very personal service to our clients and we value the importance of our excellent team of translators. Some translators on our team have been with us since the very early days. We're very pleased to say that some of our best clients have also been with us for most of those years. During the year we have marked the occasion by appearing in a number of publications and newspapers. We'd like to thank everyone who has helped us achieve this landmark.
April 2005 - Expanding our database of translators
During the past months it has been evident that clients want a wider choice of language combinations for translations – moving away from the previously dominant ‘from’ or ‘into’ English. We’re now being asked to translate from languages such as French, Italian and Spanish directly into other languages, not involving the English language. We have been delighted to be able to source these combinations from our bank of translators world-wide to be able to meet these requests.
August 2004 - No job too small!
It appears that romance is not dead. There is a trend for having your loved one's name transcribed into various scripts such as Arabic or Chinese in order for this to be used for a tattoo. Far more aesthetically pleasing, obviously, than our own English versions of Bill or Sam and we're happy to help. Although the majority of our work is translation of large operation and maintenance manuals, no job is too small for our attention.
